You probably don't know this about me but I am currently the Guinness World Record holder for longest span of time it took one person to read 'Pillars of the Earth' by Ken Follett. I know. You'd think with all this spare time I'd have completed it in no time. Well the honest truth is that I started it in October while away on a trip. As I approached the halfway point, Follett started talking about Richard. Well, I hadn't even been introduced to Richard, let alone his sister and their ill father. I realized that 80 pages of the book were nowhere to be found. So when I got back home I went to the used book store and told the owner what had happened. Once she was finished smoking like a chimney, she exchanged my book for one with each page intact. Well... I can't say I've hated the book. I'm very interested in the architectural aspects as I worked for a stone mason for a couple summers. But I have to admit, I think I'm only finishing the novel in hopes of a (cliche) happy ending. At this point, a happy ending might be something like the residents of Kingsbridge not getting their town set fire to or Jack not getting killed and leaving his wife and two kids. Something like that would please me, Mr.Follett.
So. If anyone has a suggestion for a novel complete with happiness, summer, success, chocolate, animals, sex (of course, not all together), please share.
